Maria Krystyna Sacewicz

Born in Brzana, Polska on August 13, 1930. Died Sunday, June 12, 2022 in St. Paul. Preceded in death by parents Wiktoria and Maciej; brother Piotr; husband Henryk; and daughter Wiktoria. She is survived by her loving son and caretaker, Mark, who was always there for her as her dementia progressed in her later years. Maria had a caring and loving heart for those closest and dearest to her. She was loved by many who knew her well. Her stubbornness at times was endearing and her generous heart showed in the many charitable causes to which she contributed. Maria began working at the College of St. Catherine and as a seamstress in Downtown St. Paul. She started work at West Publishing in 1968 before retiring after 25 years. With her unique and enduring personality, she made many friends at West over the years. She would always say, “West is the best.” Maria enjoyed sewing in her spare time, traveling, and gambling at casinos. She loved her cats, especially the black stray she rescued. She loved listening to polkas and her favorite songs by Elvis, Neil Diamond, and Dean Martin. She enjoyed dancing at the Polish American Club in East St. Paul. Always determined to learn something new; speaking Spanish, driving a forklift at West Publishing, and learning about other cultures. Maria loved to travel with her son, Mark: Hawaii, Alaska, California, Florida, New York, Chicago, and her favorite, Las Vegas. The highlight of her travels was a 17-day trip to Western Europe (less than a month after 9/11), including London, Paris, Switzerland, Nice, Monaco, Venice, Rome, Salzburg, and Frankfort. Special thanks to the nursing staff at United Hospital and her hospice team, especially her nurse Paulette (a polka from Wisconsin).
