Obituary of Esther Voss

Esther Anna Voss of St. Paul MN , Age 106, passed away on October 23, 2021. Esther was born in Garber Iowa on June 18, 1915. She was a graduate of Elkport High School in Elkport, Iowa, the class of 1932. Esther received a degree from the Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa and also attended Upper Iowa University. She was the assistant cashier in several banks in northeastern Iowa before moving to St Paul in 1943 where she lived with her aunt Frances Webber until her aunt's passing. Esther began working as a secretary and then became administrative assistant for a vice president at the Hamm's Brewery in St. Paul until her retirement 30 years later in 1984. During that time Esther received many recognitions for her contributions to Hamm's including Secretary of the Year in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area. An avid reader, Esther also enjoyed bowling in a Hamm's league, playing golf, and forever rooting for her Minnesota Twins baseball team. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Lester, Menlo and Victor Voss. She is survived by her forever loving nieces Louise Thurn, Myrna Voss, Mary Ann Hansen; nephew Robert Voss; many great nieces, great great nieces, great nephews and great great nephews; and many close friends especially Tom Cherp and John Doody who befriended and literally adopted Esther as their own aunt, routinely visiting and helping Esther in her later years, and became members of Esther's family and of ours. Esther will always live in the hearts of not only her family but also those she touched in her every aspect of her life, providing a moral compass for leading our lives and a faith in God that He would always look after us and never challenge us with more than we can deal with. Esther had a frequent saying "Let Go and Let God." In her last years, it was clear more than ever to Esther that God had a plan for her to continue her inspiration to us in never giving up and letting the Lord continue to make that place for her in heaven until He finally called her to come home. Mass of Christian burial 3:00pm Saturday November 6th at the Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul. Visitation 1 hour prior to the mass (2:00 - 3:00pm).
