Obituary of Beverly Jean Van Pelt

Beverly Jean "Bev" Van Pelt, age 89 of West St. Paul, Minnesota passed away peacefully on February 4, 2022. She is preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Hazel Sandlund; son, Steven Van Pelt; sisters, Shelley Kiesling and Barb Auge; granddaughter, Linda Marie Cushing. She is survived by children, Jimmy Van Pelt, Sheri Mullen, Lori Ritt, Loren (Jenny) Van Pelt; grandchildren, Erin (Mike) Hinck, Christopher Mullen, Jackie (Rich) Evans, Teresa Ritt, Joshua Van Pelt, Chad Van Pelt, Veronica Van Pelt, Hayley Van Pelt, Piper Van Pelt, great-grandchildren, Henry Hinck, Oliver Hinck, Crosby Hinck, Elle Mullen, Finnegan Mullen, Cionna Cushing, Zuriel Ransom-Cushing, Richard Evans, Madison Van Pelt, Hope Van Pelt, Bishop Van Pelt; also many relatives and friends. Bev's Father was Swedish and her Mother was Danish. This combination created a smart, stubborn, feisty and fiercely independent woman. As a young girl, she was quiet and a good student. She was always the girl with the biggest bow in her hair. She graduated high school and her first job was as a typist at Equitable Life in downtown St. Paul. She was paid 75 cents an hour. On payday she and her friends would go to White Castle and get a hamburger and a coke for 15 cents. She soon married and had 5 kids. The family owned Cherokee TV Repair. Dad did the service work and Mom was the brains behind it all. She handled all the book work and finances every night after caring for 5 kids all day. After 20 years, they sold the business and she worked at Unisys as a secretary. She retired from Unisys, divorced and moved to Florida. She bought and sold and moved almost a dozen times during her 15 years in Florida. She made the tough decision to move back to Minnesota. First to Red Wing, then Eagan and finally West St. Paul. Services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 1575 Charlton St., West St. Paul. Visitation will be at church one hour prior to the service (10:00 – 11:00am). Thank you to all the wonderful caregivers at The Walker Methodist at Westwood Ridge in West St. Paul. Services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 1575 Charlton St., West St. Paul. Visitation will be at church one hour prior to the service (10:00 - 11:00am).
